The idea we are named after

Advertising drew a line.
We built the company
that crosses it.

For fifty years a brand had to choose: the reach of mass media, or the precision of direct activation. Through the line is the refusal to choose — and it is why TTL Media exists.

TTL Media Private Limited — Beyond World, Beyond Trends Oye Creators

Where the phrase comes from

It began as a line
on an invoice.

In the middle of the last century, agencies drew a literal line across a client’s budget. Above it sat commissionable mass media. Below it sat everything the agency executed directly for a fee. It was a billing convention. It became a way of thinking — and eventually a ceiling on what brands believed was possible.

ABOVE THE LINE Mass media · bought for reach Television Radio Press Outdoor Cinema THE LINE Sampling In-store Events Direct mail Activation BELOW THE LINE Direct · bought for response THROUGH
The line was never a strategy. It was accounting — and brands inherited it as a choice.

Above the line

Reach without precision

A film on national television reaches tens of millions in an evening and builds the familiarity that makes a brand feel safe to buy.

  • Enormous, fast awareness
  • Builds long-term brand memory
  • Cannot tell you who acted
  • Cannot speak Bhojpuri to Bihar and Kannada to Davanagere in the same slot
  • Priced beyond most Indian businesses

Below the line

Precision without reach

A sampling drive in a housing society, a demonstration in a mandi, an activation outside a college. Targeted, personal, countable.

  • You know exactly who tried it
  • Trusted, face-to-face, local
  • Stops at the edge of the society, the mandi, the campus
  • Scaling means repeating it by hand a thousand times
  • A thousand vendors, a thousand invoices, no consistency

Reach or relevance. Awareness or action. A campaign everybody saw and nobody answered — or one that converted beautifully in four localities and nowhere else.

The trade-off, drawn

Everyone chose a corner.

Plot every medium on two axes — how many people it reaches, and how precisely it can be aimed — and advertising’s whole history sits in two opposite corners. The top-right was empty, not because nobody wanted it, but because no instrument existed that was genuinely both.

Through the line is not ATL with a coupon attached, and it is not BTL with a bigger budget. It is a single motion that carries the reach characteristics of media and the targeting, trust and measurability of activation.

PRECISION → REACH → ATL reach only BTL precision only TTL both, at once
The corner everyone wanted and nobody could buy.

Why creator marketing is the purest form of it

One post.
Two natures.

A creator’s post is the first medium that is structurally both things at the same time — not a compromise between them, but genuinely each.

It behaves like media

  • It is published and discoverable
  • It accumulates views for months
  • It builds familiarity exactly as a film does
  • It reaches people who never searched for you

It behaves like an activation

  • Made by someone the audience already trusts
  • In their language, about a shop they can reach
  • Every view, save, comment and code is countable
  • It converts, and you can prove it did

And it scales sideways

Not one big voice.
Ten thousand near ones.

Mass media scales upward — you buy a bigger slot. Through the line scales sideways: you add creators and towns. Ten thousand nano creators across four hundred towns is a mass-reach campaign and four hundred hyperlocal campaigns at the same time, tracked per pin code, per language, per week.

The name came first

We were named after the idea
before we built the proof.

TTL Media Private Limited was incorporated in Pune on 22 March 2024, named for a conviction rather than a product: that the split between reach and relevance was an accident of accounting, and that whoever closed it would change who gets to advertise in India.

Oye Creators is the proof. Through the line, built as a platform — 1.5 million nano and micro creators across 28 states and more than 20 languages, activated by intent, tracked weekly, paid in-app. The reach of media. The precision of activation. One motion.

Frequently asked

What does TTL stand for in marketing?

TTL stands for Through The Line. It describes marketing that combines above-the-line mass media and below-the-line targeted activation in a single campaign, rather than treating them as separate budgets and separate disciplines.

What is the difference between ATL, BTL and TTL?

ATL (above the line) is mass media — television, radio, press, outdoor — bought for reach. BTL (below the line) is direct and targeted — sampling, activations, in-store, events — bought for measurable response. TTL (through the line) delivers both at once: the reach of media with the targeting and measurability of activation.

Why is creator marketing considered through the line?

A creator’s post is published like media and accumulates reach over time, while also being made by a trusted person in a specific place and language, with every view, save and click countable. It is simultaneously a broadcast and a personal recommendation, which is precisely what through the line describes.

Is TTL marketing more expensive than ATL or BTL?

Not inherently. Because the unit of purchase is a single creator rather than a media slot or an event, campaigns can start small — from ₹3,000 on Oye Creators — and scale by adding creators and towns rather than by buying a larger slot.

Why is TTL Media called TTL Media?

The company is named after the through-the-line idea it was founded on: that the historic split between mass reach and measurable relevance was an accounting convention, not a law, and that closing it would widen who can afford to advertise in India.
