Air Marshal Bapat served the Indian Air Force for three and a half decades, retiring on 31 December 2019 as Air Officer-in-Charge Administration — the officer responsible for the administration of the entire force — a post he took over on 1 November 2018 after serving as Director General (Works & Ceremonials). Commissioned on 28 May 1983 as a fighter controller in the Administrative Branch, his career included senior and chief administrative charge of a Su-30 base and participation in Exercise Golden Eagle with the South African Air Force. A postgraduate in Zoology from Vikram University, Ujjain, he was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal in service and the Param Vishisht Seva Medal in January 2020. He has represented Madhya Pradesh twice at the national cycle-polo championships. He brings to the board decades of experience in running large organisations with integrity and process.
